Shopping for home furnishings and appliances usually has to be done in two separate trips—but two brands have just joined forces to completely change that. This week, IKEA revealed that it has partnered with Best Buy to launch its first-ever cross-brand retail shop.
For lucky Best Buy customers in select Florida and Texas stores, you’ll be some of the first to enjoy IKEA’s new in-store planning and shopping experience.
The new “shop-in-shop” experience is basically a mini version of an IKEA showroom with Best Buy appliances integrated throughout. These will be specific to kitchen and laundry areas only. Customers will be able to browse and receive support from IKEA specialists to plan and order home furnishings. And in two of the stores (the Lakeland, FL, and Alamo Ranch, TX locations), you can pick up most products ordered in-store or at IKEA.com.
Given that this is the first time IKEA products and services will be accessible through another U.S. retailer, it’s a historic step for the Swedish megastore.
“By bringing together our home furnishing expertise, products, and services with Best Buy’s leadership in appliances and technology, we’re creating a one-stop destination where customers can design their dream kitchen, storage solutions, or laundry space with ease. It’s a great step on our journey to helping people create beautiful, functional homes at a price they can afford,” said Rob Olson, IKEA U.S. chief operation officer, in a press statement.
