Four people – including an 8-year-old child – were killed, and 11 others were wounded Saturday evening when gunfire erupted during a family gathering in Stockton, California, according to officials.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday that 15 people in total suffered gunshot wounds and confirmed the victims who died were 8, 9, 14, and 21 years old. Detectives remained at the scene processing evidence with support from the California Department of Justice.
Deputies first responded shortly before 6 p.m. to reports of gunfire at the location, and early indications “suggest this may have been a targeted incident,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said, adding that the suspect remains at large.
“We are doing everything possible to bring the individual that’s responsible for this to justice,” San Joaquin County District Attorney Ron Freitas said.
