SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A bartender was stabbed seven times while eating lunch Thursday inside a restaurant in Mission Beach, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 2:21 p.m. at Moe’s in the 3000 block of Mission Boulevard, the San Diego Police Department confirmed to FOX 5/KUSI.
Police say they received a call about a man displaying symptoms of being under the influence at the beach.
The suspect’s behavior alerted a beachgoer who confronted the suspect on his behavior, according to police.
The suspect then left the beach and walked down an alleyway toward Moe’s with the same beachgoer following him.

While the beachgoer followed the suspect with a rock to protect himself because he felt threatened by the suspect, the suspect went into Moe’s and confronted an employee eating lunch at the restaurant, according to authorities.
The suspect stabbed the bartender seven times with a knife, prompting the beachgoer who followed the suspect to hit the suspect with a rock, per SDPD. Several other patrons at the bar also stepped in to protect the bartender.
The bartender suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the suspect was taken into custody without incident, police said.
Moe’s was closed for the evening to take care of the business and employees. It is expected to reopen Friday.
About four people in total were involved in the incident. The suspect did not have any connection with the beachgoer as well as the workers at the restaurant, authorities said.
