A hallway inside the Humphrey Building in Washington D.C. features portraits of federal officials who worked at HHS, and one of them is of Admiral Rachel Levine, NPR reported on Friday.
“Levine’s official portrait was recently altered, a spokesperson for HHS confirmed to NPR. A digital photograph of the portrait in the hallway obtained by NPR shows that Levine’s previous name is now typed below the portrait, under the glass of the frame,” the outlet said.
According to Breitbart News, Levine was born as Richard and previously served as Pennsylvania’s health secretary.
While Levine’s spokesperson, Adrian Shanker, called the name change an act of “bigotry against her,” HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon told NPR, “Our priority is ensuring that the information presented internally and externally by HHS reflects gold standard science. We remain committed to reversing harmful policies enacted by Levine and ensuring that biological reality guides our approach to public health.”
NPR did not use the name “Richard” in its article.
The U.S. Senate in March 2021 voted to confirm Levine, who was Biden’s nominee, to be the assistant secretary of health at HHS, according to Breitbart News:
Levine, who has faced extreme opposition from Senate Republicans, was confronted by Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) during the confirmation hearings and pressed on the danger to children of “transgender” therapies.
Critics also slammed Levine for touting and publicizing a January 2020 study that declared puberty-blocking drugs to be beneficial for young children and recommended “accelerating” cross-sex hormones for homeless teens who are suffering from gender dysphoria and estranged from their parents.
While speaking at DNC pride month event in 2022, Levine claimed, “Gender affirming care is lifesaving, medically necessary, age-appropriate, and a critical tool for health care providers,” Breitbart News reported.
Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was violently assassinated in September, was locked out of his Twitter account in 2022 for speaking the truth about Levine’s biological status and calling him a man.
He wrote, “Richard Levine spent 54 years of his life as a man. He had a wife and a family. He ‘transitioned’ to being a woman in 2011, Joe Biden appointed Levine to be a 4-Star Admiral and now USA Today has named ‘Rachel’ Levine as a ‘Woman of the Year.’ Where are the feminists?”
Kirk later told Breitbart News, “Twitter just proved it doesn’t believe in truth. It believes in narrative. It doesn’t believe in science. It believes in ideology. It doesn’t believe in biology, it believes in gender theories. They don’t want the truth, they want submission. We cannot give them what they want.”
