Sportsnet analyst and former Blue Jays catcher Caleb Joseph made his statements during postgame coverage at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Outkick reported Sunday. Joseph has also played for the Baltimore Orioles and Arizona Diamondbacks.
The clip shows unhappy Blue Jays fans sitting in the stands, with Joseph saying, “There were a lot of wet eyes tonight, and I don’t blame them for that. It’s going to sound like sour grapes, and I don’t really give a shit. I think the better team did not win this series.”
“I think the Blue Jays are the better team and I feel like they played baseball a certain way that was infectious, that grabbed the attention of the fans, and it’s disheartening to see that the better team did not win,” he added.
Social media users were quick to react to Joseph’s comments. One person wrote, “Hard to get any more sour than that,” while someone else said, “It sounds like sour grapes from Caleb Joseph because it is. They fucking lost.”
The Associated Press (AP) reported:
Will Smith homered in the 11th inning after Miguel Rojas connected for a tying drive in the ninth, and the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 in Game 7 Saturday night to become the first team in a quarter century to win consecutive World Series titles.
Los Angeles overcame 3-0 and 4-2 deficits and escaped a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to become the first repeat champion since the 1998-2000 New York Yankees, and the first from the National League since the 1975 and ’76 Cincinnati Reds.
Highlights from the game show the moment the crowd and Dodgers celebrated their win:
“The Dodgers stand tall and win back to back titles. From backs against the wall, to back to back,” an announcer said.
