I recently came across this Reddit thread asking, “What is your job and how much do you get paid?” and I found the responses soooo fascinating. Here are the most interesting ones:
1. “Toddler lead teacher. Just got a raise from $9.65 to $10.50, but not because I’m valued, because we’re so severely understaffed, and everyone who walks through walks right back out once they learn how low the wage is. Don’t blame them one bit.”
2. “Master of the custodial arts. $17.50/h.”
3. “I do whatever needs to be done around the warehouse that doesn’t require a forklift. $19/hour.”
4. “I’m a vet tech and I make about $54,000 a year.”
5. “I’m a chef and I get $15 an hour, which comes up to $18 an hour with tips (around $300 in tips a week), but I still think it’s a bit unfair. I love my work environment, we’re all like a family here, which is one of the reasons I’m sticking around.”

6. “Nurse case manager and I make $87,000 per year working in pediatric psych outpatient. Partially remote, and it’s the best job you can have as a nurse. Very chill full benefits with pension and office hours.”
7. “Just returned to technical writing. $28/hour, which hopefully will go up as I stay with the company. I really, really miss teaching college. My last full-time professorial position only paid $35,000/year, but I’d absolutely go back to it in a heartbeat if I could get a position. Academia has always been a tough job market, but it’s become really bad recently, with universities and colleges relying on adjuncts rather than full-time professors.”
8. “Middle school English teacher with a doctoral degree. $64,000.”
9. “Music teacher in a public high school. $40k this year in NE Ohio. This is my seventh year teaching. Pay goes up slowly every year.”
10. “Registered Nurse in a hospital with a Master’s and many years of experience. $150,000+ a year.”
11. “I’m the manager of a call center for a nonprofit in Chicago, and I make just over $76,000/year.”
12. “State Park Ranger…$2,800/month…about $55,000 a year. I’m in Southern California.”

13. “Registrar at a K-12 public school. I’ll get $21.50/hour on next year’s contract. I have to know everything about everything to work all grade levels. But I’ll work only six-hour days next year, which works great for us as our little one will start school next year, but if we needed my income to live on, then I couldn’t do it.”
14. “I’m a dental hygienist in MA (been working for a year and a half) and I make $45/hr.”
15. “Visual merchandiser at a furniture store. Four-year degree in my field, multiple years of experience, including two years of management experience. $16.50 an hour.”
16. “Cybersecurity Compliance Analyst. $112,000 with 10 years of experience in the field. I have a Master’s Degree and an industry certification.”
17. “I am 28 years old, and I make about 265k gross as a financial analyst.”
18. “I develop training for a large auto insurance company. With bonuses, I make a little over $100,000 a year. 21 years ago, I started at $26,500. I have worked my way up to better positions within the company.”
19. “15 years as a feed and commodity salesperson, I make $70k base and around $80k in commissions. I have averaged between $140–$160k the last 5–6 years. Year #1, I made $52k.”
20. “I’m a voice-over artist and I generated $363,000 in revenue this past year.”
21. “City Government Capital Project Manager. I mainly manage architectural and engineering consulting and construction contracts. Make around $110k/year with full benefits including pension. Never work more than 40 hours a week.”
22. “Delivering for FedEx Ground for two years now. No college. I make $48,000 gross pay, no benefits.”

25. “I am a sixth-year personal injury attorney working at a firm in Southwest Missouri. I graduated top of my class, I was chair of the moot court board in law school, I am a published author, and I am licensed in multiple states. I should clear slightly over $50,000.00 by the end of this year. Also, I’m in $100k+ in student loan debt.”
26. “Graphic designer with three years of experience and a four-year degree. Make slightly under $43K annually, which isn’t terrible for a designer in Pittsburgh.”
27. “Assistant superintendent at a private golf club on the east end of Long Island. I make $76,000 a year with benefits major one being free housing. So I get paid and housed to grow grass.”
28. “I work part-time at a private school, teaching music to pre-K through 8th grade (choir, handbells, music theory, sight-singing). I design the curriculum, write grade reports, and submit monthly curriculum records. I teach students individually, run rehearsals outside of regular class time, and put on two major concerts each year. I have taught music for 31 years. I’m embarrassed to say I earn $35,000/year at that job with no benefits. I also teach piano and petsit. Now that my daughter is graduating from high school, I’ve enrolled in truck driving school. I plan to invest in crypto and buy property with my earnings.”

32. “Officer on a container ship. I work about six months out of the year and make about $120,000. For the most part, my job is looking out a window at some waves.”
33. “I work in New York City as a roll off dumpster driver. I make $40/hour in January, and I get medical and pension paid 100% by my employer. There’s guaranteed overtime too, so I gross around $130k and the other perks.”
34. “I work at a recycling plant. I get $35 an hour to stand at a conveyor belt picking out glass.”
