Three High School Football Players Killed In ‘Horrific’ Accident

Students and teachers from E.E. Smith High School in Fayetteville, North Carolina are mourning the loss of three students this week.

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, a one-vehicle accident occurred this Wednesday around 7:22 p.m. on Rosehill Road. The car veered off the road and crashed into a telephone pole. There were four people involved in this accident. The three students who went to E.E. Smith High School were declared dead at the scene. The fourth person was airlifted to the hospital.

Cumberland County Schools released a statement on this tragic accident.

”We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of three E.E. Smith High School students,” Cumberland County Schools said, via WBTV. “Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, loved ones and the entire E.E. Smith Golden Bulls community during this difficult time.”

On Thursday night, it was reported by multiple outlets that Jai’hyon Elliott, Trevor Merritt and Nicholas Williams were the students involved in this fatal accident.

The school district announced that E.E. Smith High School’s game against South View has been postponed. It was initially set for this Friday.

“The top priority of both schools continues to be providing support to students, faculty and staff as they process this tragedy,” Cumberland County Schools added. “We appreciate the kindness, understanding and support of both school communities during this difficult time.”
