With millions of followers across multiple media platforms, Paige Spiranac is one of the biggest golf influencers in the world. But there’s one issue she’s been having recently that she needed to warn her followers about.
Taking to X on Tuesday, Spiranac informed her audience that she does not have an account on the Telegram social media platform. She said that there have been impersonators there either pretending to be her, someone from her family or someone from her team.
“I DONT HAVE A TELEGRAM! Please stop talking to people on there claiming to be me, a family member, or someone from my team. Thank you!” Spiranac wrote.
Fans had some fun with the reminder, joking about ways they might have been scammed on Telegram.
“I cant tell you how many PaigeSpiranac(s) I have following me. LOL As annoying as it may be for you, you should also be a little flattered,” one user joked.
“So cancel my tee time we set up? JK,” wrote another.
“Some people have nothing better to do then to try and scam people!” a third wrote.
“Wait wait wait..do you mean the 5 Paige Spiranac’s following me aren’t you either???”
“Wait, so you don’t really need $$ for new golf clubs? I already Cash Apped you.”
“You told me on telegram you’d say that on X.”
Telegram is a cloud-based messaging app known for its speed, security, and versatility. Founded in 2013 by Pavel and Nikolai Durov, the app quickly grew into one of the world’s most popular communication platforms, boasting hundreds of millions of active users. Telegram allows users to send text messages, photos, videos, voice notes, and files of virtually any size, all synchronized across devices. Its end-to-end encrypted Secret Chats, customizable channels, and large group chat capabilities make it a favorite for both personal and professional communication. The platform’s emphasis on privacy and freedom from corporate or government control has also attracted users seeking an alternative to mainstream apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger.
Beyond messaging, Telegram has evolved into a powerful social and content-sharing network. Features like polls, stories, and public channels enable creators, businesses, and communities to engage with massive audiences. Developers also value Telegram’s open API, which supports third-party integrations and custom apps. However, the platform has faced criticism for being used to spread misinformation and for limited content moderation in certain regions.
And like so many other social media platforms, Telegram is not immune to being used by bad actors for scamming purposes.
As always, be vigilant when using social media.
