Toyota has issued a nationwide recall of nearly 600,000 vehicles due to a malfunction that “could lead to an increased risk of a crash or an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.”
The automaker is recalling certain Toyota Venza, Crown, Crown Signia, RAV4, GR Corolla, 4Runner, Camry, Grand Highlander, Tacoma, Highlander, and certain Lexus LS, RX, and TX vehicles across the U.S., citing a faulty dashboard panel as the cause.
“The 12.3-inch display of the instrument panel may be blank at startup,” the recall states. “Operating the vehicle with this display blank reduces the ability to see certain malfunction indicators.”
The notice warns that if a vehicle is malfunctioning while a someone is driving but the driver cannot see it listed on their instrument panel, they may continue to drive.
This “could lead to an increased risk of a crash or an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash,” Toyota warns.
The automaker said Toyota and Lexus dealers will inspect and update programming for all vehicles affected by the recall and replace the faulty parts that could be the cause of the malfunction.
Customers affected by the recall will be notified by Toyota by mid-November and may call the Toyota Brand Engagement Center at 1-800-331-4331 for questions regarding the recall.
