Initially the outlet dismissed any relation between the newsroom laughter and the tragic murder of Kirk saying the two were “not related.”
As public disgust built over the coverage, TMZ returned to the matter and hastily made clear their position, saying “As we were reporting the asssasination (sic) of Charlie Kirk there were some people in the back room away from our news desk who were watching a car chase and they were laughing and clapping… they were not laughing that way about Charlie Kirk’s assassination.”
As Breitbart News reported, Kirk was shot in his neck and killed while at an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday.
President Donald Trump has since ordered all U.S. flags to be flown at half-mast until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday in honor of Kirk, who he described as a “Great American Patriot” while vowing to seek justice for the loss of the free speech crusader and father of two.
Trump Vows to Pursue Those Behind Charlie Kirk’s Assassination
Trump also spoke up about the “heinous” cold blooded public murder of the 31-year-old.
The assassin is still at large and remains unidentified.
