President Donald Trump hosted a press briefing on crime in Washington, D.C., on Monday, announced a federal takeover of the police force and deployment of National Guardsmen to the nation’s capital.

Trump on Friday is expected to hold a summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin, as the White House seeks an end to the Kremlin’s war in Ukraine.

Trump extends trade truce with China for another 90 days

Hours before the deadline was to go into effect, President Donald Trump signed an executive order extending the United States and China trade truce another 90 days, according to an announcement on social media.

“I have just signed an Executive Order that will extend the Tariff Suspension on China for another 90 days. All other elements of the Agreement will remain the same,” Trump wrote.

The new deadline will expire on Nov. 9. at 12:01 a.m.

When asked during the press conference earlier Monday if the president intends to extend the China trade-truce deadline, which was previously set to end Monday night at midnight, Trump declined to answer.

“We’ll see what happens,” Trump said.

Ahead of the trade truce, the current tariff rate on Chinese imports entering the U.S. was 145%.

Trump picks Heritage Foundation economist for Labor Statistics post

Trump announced on social media that E.J. Antoni will be the next commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Antoni served as the chief economist at The Heritage Foundation.

“Our Economy is booming, and E.J. will ensure that the Numbers released are HONEST and ACCURATE. I know E.J. Antoni will do an incredible job in this new role,” Trump wrote on social media.

His announcement comes as the latest report on inflation will be released Tuesday morning. July inflation is expected to have ticked up to 2.8% compared to a year ago.

It will be the first major BLS report since the then-BLS Commissioner Erika McEntarfer was fired earlier this month after a disappointing jobs report.

Trump meets with Intel CEO whose resignation he demanded

Trump said that he met with Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick and Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent Monday afternoon, according to a post on the president’s social media platform.

“The meeting was very interesting. His success and rise is an amazing story,” Trump said Tan.

“Mr. Tan and my Cabinet members are going to spend time together, and bring suggestions to me during the next week,” he continued.

The meeting occurred after Trump demanded Tan’s resignation on social media last week.

Trump says DC takeover will be a ‘model’ for other cities

Wrapping up a press conference in the White House briefing room, President Donald Trump declared, “We’re going to be taking back our capital.”

“It’s going to be a model. And then we’ll look at other cities also, but other cities are studying what we’re doing. And you have some capable people in other cities, they can do it too. But we have a great group of professionals, we’re going to have a safe, beautiful capital and it’s going to happen very quickly,” Trump added.
