People reports Warner was vacationing with family in Costa Rica and drowned while swimming.
ABC News reported that Warner drowned off the coast of Costa Rica on Sunday, Costa Rican National Police told the outlet. His body was found on Sunday afternoon. Police said his official cause of death was asphyxia.
Warner lived his life playing one beloved TV character after another. His sitcom Malcolm & Eddie starring comedian Eddie Griffin ran for five seasons, from 1996-2000. Warner also starred as Dr. Alex Reed in the BET sitcom Reed Between the Lines.

Amid appearances in dozens of TV shows and movies, Warner won a Grammy in 2015.
He was mostly recently a fixture for five seasons on the hit Fox medical drama The Resident.
Warner is survived by a wife and daughter.
