A corrections deputy was shot and killed in south Florida on Monday night in what authorities are describing as a “targeted” attack.
Basil Powell, 39, was “targeted and ambushed while returning home” Monday night to Belle Glade, a city near Lake Okeechobee, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office.
“As he exited his vehicle, he was immediately fired upon,” the sheriff’s office said. A homicide investigation is now underway.
“PBSO, once again, stands together, honoring our deputy’s memory and supporting his family, friends, and colleagues through this time of immense sorrow,” it added.
